The impact of a tall poppy

Being new to blogisphere I am indebted to a few faithful friends (you know who you are) for not only giving me a nudge, but also the support and skill in setting up in blogland. Frankly I was feeling totally out of my comfort zone getting my Wordpress website set up late last year, and more recently with this Google blog.

Encouragement and support is so special so I want to acknowledge how a TALL POPPY, the lady with the yarngarden website motivated me so that I ceased procrastinating and just got on with it! I would not have got to this point without her help. This just shows have powerful friendship can be. To get my blog up, it became an exciting learning experience.

I have also discovered the benefits of having a single website/blog rather than two separate sites. Therefore I am asking you to view my future works and blog discussion on http://www.craftyquilting.wordpress.com/ where you can view my gallery and my blog on the same site.

My quilt "Poppies" was made with silk paints on cotton fabric, embellished with organza and a variety of fabrics and beads. Hope you like it.

Play time - trying new techniques

A Christmas swap with my fibraquins resulted in a garden quilt being made for Connie. What an opportunity it was to experiment! Initially blocked with any good ideas on how to create a garden quilt, my mind simmered for quite a while....until one of the articles in my favourite magazine (Quilting Arts ) opened up possibilities. So I was off to the local bargain shop to purchase silk flowers for this project.

Even when fabrics and notions were assembled ready for use, I was pessimistic about the outcome. But I need not to have been Mrs Doubtful! See for yourself the result....also just how software can be used to create another beautiful image of the same garden quilt. Viola!

Art-quilt - Flinders Ranges theme

Another impressionistic view of the Flinders Ranges was created as a result of my holiday in South Australia last year. If you like exploring rugged rocky outcrops amonst beautiful eucalypt gums it is a world of amazing colour. Quite a spiritual experience and so good for the creative soul. Here's another quilt I made as a result of time in this superb wonderland.

Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) for my fibraquins

I made these Christmas treats for my four fibraquins who were curious when they heard about ATC's. Each was made to reflect their textural interests or colour preferences. My embellishing machine helped to felt silk and woolen yarns. These ATC's let me play with different mediums and being small were easily posted to my fibre friends.

Where I live

An article from one of my Quilting Arts magazines pivoted me into action.

This is the result - a patchwork reflection of where I live which was constructed using snippets of fabric from my scrap stash. I liked it so much that I entered this quilt in a calendar competition by the Quilters Guild of NSW Inc.

The process was so enjoyable that I made another, using a photo of a fibre friend's house - We did a swap. I will post a photo of her house quilt tomorrow. It was quick and fun!

A snippet about creative Pamela!

Throughout my adult life my creativity was expressed by

• sewing clothing for myself and friends
• knitting (rather badly)
• making pottery (with a good teacher)
• enamelling jewellery (this was fun and made me some money)
• cooking with gusto (the family love me!)

Then in 2001 I attended a quilting class. My first challenge was to make a sampler quilt - queen size! It was a labour of love which slowly left me drift towards making art-quilts. Confession time - I am addicted! You will see over time how my textile creating diverts through a whole range of mediums. Currently I am enjoying dyeing fabric and yarns to create complex cloth that form the basis of art-quilts.

Quilts for babies is also a specialty and these are made on consignment. Art quilts are for sale and are on show at the Wild Lime Cafe & Gallery in the Flinders Ranges, South Australia.
